Museum of the History of Cypriot Coinage

Established in 1995, the Museum of the History of Cypriot Coinage is the only museum in Cyprus displaying a numismatic collection. A collection of over 500 coins, developed over time by the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation, covering nine chronological periods, from the 6th century BC to the modern issues of coins by the Republic of Cyprus. Amongst the various coins of the collection, a bronze coin from the Roman period stands out: It bears the legend "ΚΟΙΝΟ(Ν) ΚΥΠΡΙΩΝ" (League of the Cypriots), a symbol of unity among the inhabitants of the island, and the official logo of the Bank of Cyprus since 1963. It was donated to the Bank by a member of the Board of Directors of the Group. In 2009, the museum was transferred to a new exhibition space in the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Center in Phaneromeni, and the showcases were redesigned to blend harmoniously with their new home.
